AI

AI that works in the real world

AI

AI has the potential to transform how the highways and utility sectors operate — making planning smarter, processes more efficient, and outcomes more predictable.

But in sectors as complex and highly regulated as ours, using AI effectively means knowing when it helps — and when it doesn’t.

This page is where we share our experience putting AI into practice, our thoughts on its evolving role in the industry, and how it powers the tools we’ve developed.

How do we use AI

We build AI products, and we use AI tools ourselves. But we’re selective. In a fast-moving tech landscape, it’s easy to chase every new tool — and just as easy to compromise security, data integrity, or even productivity in the process.

In utilities and highways, these risks are amplified by sensitive data and limited budgets for experimentation. That’s why we test rigorously, adopt carefully, and only deploy tools that deliver real value. And as a growing business, we’re learning fast what works, what doesn’t, and what to avoid.

Our AI Products

Our AI products are built in-house from the ground up, using proprietary technology.

We understand the problems from first principles, and we know exactly which ones we’re solving. Here’s how AI sits inside our products.

Work Smart

The foundation platform. No AI here. It runs the processes and data collection that power our AI tools.

Schedule Smart

Our core scheduling engine, built on genetic algorithms. It solves each day’s workload from scratch, without relying on client data for training unless a fully customised model is requested.

Programme Smart

Uses a blend of graph theory and genetic algorithms to solve large-scale scheduling and routing challenges for fixed but complex asset sets, like road inspections.

Custom Models

We only train models on client data when specifically requested, for tailored optimisation or variable predictions like job duration.
